- JUNE 4, 2010: New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Pete Grannis today announced that additional trees in the Randolph (Cattaraugus County) area have been discovered to be infested with Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), a tree-killing beetle first confirmed in New York last year. DEC foresters have detected emerging insects on private woodlands south of Interstate 86, but within the previously established EAB quarantine area. Click here to read the full press release.
- JULY 24, 2009: New York State has implemented a quarantine in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties restricting the movement of firewood from all wood species, as well as any ash trees and ash products, in an effort to prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer. - June 17, 2009: An invasive insect known as the Emerald Ash Borer has been found in southwestern New York State. The insect is highly destructive to all North American ash tree species, and can be imported onto your property through improperly treated firewood.
